Weblogs have become very popular nowadays, and one of the reasons for that is their simplicity. There are loads of free blog services around that provide proper instructions and guides the process of posting your content online. Great advantage that blogs have is the possibility of updating the content from any location with an Internet connection. You are able to login to your personal blog dashboard area, and there you can add new content, update, review comments from readers, etc. That gives you a big advantage if you are on the move most of the time.

You can also put much more than just text on your weblog. The majority of the free blog services allow you to post pictures or embed videos into your weblog, and this is a great way to keep your readers entertained. There are a big number of free blogging services available today, and they allow you to setup a blog site. Here are some of the most popular and reliable of them:

2) NormBlogs(dot)com is a great choice of service to start blogging. All you need to do is to complete your registration and will be guided through the process of setting up your blog. It also offers a free subdomain, so you will have an easy memorable address. A wide range of templates is also available and you can modify the look of your blog.

3) WordPress is probably the most popular blogging software service and it is free to download and install on your web server. However, if you want to setup a blog without any technical knowledge, WordPress also offers a free, remotely hosted service. The meaning of this is that you can set up a blog without installing it yourself.

4) My Blog Site is also a very popular free blog hosting provider. FortuneCity, one of the biggest free web space services on the net, owns My Blog Site. There you can register for a free blog and again you will get a subdomain plus an online editor where you can post your content, update posts, delete entries, etc.

5) There are many more blogging service providers around, like LiveJournal, Joomla, Drupal, etc. You can start using LiveJournal in many ways: a private journal, a blog, a discussion forum or a social network. The service can be used through a web browser or by the use of downloadable software. When registered with LiveJournal, every user receives his or her own journal space to post text, data, messages, or software, music, photography, graphics, and video. This content may be on LiveJournal’s servers or on the servers of a third party.

6) Joomla is a great content management system, which enables you to build web sites and powerful online applications. Joomla have grown as one of the most popular website software available today and also as an open source solution that is free and available to everyone.

7) Drupal is free software that allows an individual or a community of users to easily publish, manage and organize a wide variety of content on a website. Tens of thousands of people and organizations are using Drupal to power a huge variety of websites.

There are various options when you are creating a blog. Which platform you are going to choose and what is best for blogging? I have made blogs almost on every platform. So I know what is suitable for me. So when someone wants to know what he should do – I tell him about the options.

Make a blog in Blogger’s platform

Make a blog in WordPress.com

Blog with your own .com domain and paid hosting.

Why I gave three choices? Because, I think these are the most familiar and popular ways. You should know that there are several other free blogging platforms to choose from. You can have the details blogging list in my E-Book.

1st: The first one is to make a free blog in Blogger’s platform. You can have a blog in Blogspot if you have a Gmail account. Blogspot is a free blogging platform for the bloggers. Nothing to worry about as this is a Google service. You can have plenty of space (blogs actually needs little space) and a 1GB picture hosting from Picasa. Again you can attach your .com domain in Blogspot’s blog. So it’s easy to have a professional looking blog on here.

Google indexes the Blogspot’s blog a little bit earlier than other blogs. Actually Google prefers the blog hosting here. So you can have auto search engine optimized blog for free. This is the main reason why I always suggest making a free blog at Blogspot’s blog. They are Google’s preferred ones. Go to Blogspot.com, enter your Gmail user details and login with that. And you are ready, start making your blog right now.

2nd: When making a free blog in WordPress.com, it’s easy to start a new one. Go to the home page at WordPress.com and click the “Sign up Now” button. You will be redirected to the signup page and you have everything ready on that page. Choose a user name or blog address. You have to provide an e-mail address too. They will send the information on that e-mail address. And then you have to confirm your e-mail address to proceed on.

3rd: Otherwise, there is a third option to make a blog by having a paid hosting and your own domain. You may use the WordPress software to do that. Most of the bloggers prefers it. For that you have to upload your blog software in your root folder or as described in your hosting manual. Install it as described, choose a nice template and if needed do a little bit customization. And you are ready to start a blog. Remember that when you have a blog on your own paid hosting you have lots of independence to do whatever you wish and again you have to work hard to make it popular too.

What I did

I have my own .com domain and a free cPanel hosting for this blog. I will upgrade someday into a paid hosting. I installed the WordPress software for the blogging platform and even I have a free theme for this blog. So I mixed up things to make this blog. A part is paid and a part is free. Yet this is not hosted on Blogspot or on WordPress. I prefer the free things that look like professional.
